GQ’s 20 Graphic Novels You Should Read Plus After Watchmen

Who watches the Watchmen?  Apparently lots of people, but on opening weekend.  What did Pretentious Record Store Guy think of the movie adaptation of the unfilmable comic?  I thought it was good, not great.  Like most of the time with movies based on books, I thought the book was much, much better.  But I think the Art Direction and set pieces were pretty amazing, but I could do without some of the slow motion fight scenes and background music choices, minus those featured in the book.

Anyways, it’s a great time to be a geek.  Case in point, GQ, the Gentleman’s Quarterly, 20 Graphic Novels You Should Read. What a crazy world we live in when the coolest of cool Men’s magazine drops science on your head about comic books…I mean graphic novels.

Overall, they provide an eclectic mix of books and genres, but I think GQ’s missing 4 of the best series ever created – The Sandman, 100 Bullets, Preacher and Planetary.  Luckily for them, DC has them covered with their After Watchmen What’s Next campaign:

Check it out and see why Pretentious Record Store Guy thinks that the best comics being published today have the Vertigo logo stamped on them.  It’s a good time to be a nerd.

Enjoy.
